SeaWings are one of the seven tribes living in Pyrrhia. The home of the SeaWings is the Kingdom of the Sea, where the underwater Deep Palace is located. They also had another palace named the Summer Palace, which was mostly above water, before it was destroyed. SeaWings have the ability to breathe underwater, see in the dark, and create huge waves with their tails. They are also excellent swimmers.[1] Their current queen is Queen Coral, whose current heirs are Tsunami, Anemone, and Auklet. The SeaWing royal family carries the trait which allows them the potential for animus magic.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
SeaWings can have any range of blue, green, gray, or aquamarine scales and features (rarely they may be light pinks[2], and even purples). Their eyes may appear green, blue, gray, or purple.
SeaWings are covered with bioluminescent stripes on their tails, snout, arms, legs, sides, and underbellies.[1] Royal SeaWings have luminescent stripes under their wings that form into spirals around the outer edges and large starbursts that branch out from the lines in the middle.[3] Non-royal SeaWings typically only have smaller starbursts on their wings and lack any spirals. It is believed that each luminescent scale is different.
They are said to be short, and have small compact bodies, with short stubby legs. They have twisted back horns that are also short for a dragon. Their claws are described to be as sharp as fish hooks.
They have a webbing of spines running down their back and the front of their chest. Below their chin, they sport two barbels of varying size.
Abilities[edit | edit source]
SeaWings have webs between their claws to help them swim faster. They have gills on their necks to breathe underwater,[1] and also possess the ability to breath above water. Their thick tails are used to propel themselves through tough currents and fast rapids.
The bioluminescent patterns on every SeaWing serves as the basis for the language Aquatic. It is used to communicate below water, and to attract possible SeaWing partners.[4]
Culture[edit | edit source]
Talons of Power[edit | edit source]
When SeaWings have turned two years old, they are tested if they have animus magic. This ceremony is called Talons of Power, and takes place next to the ruins of the old Island Palace. Both Anemone and Fathom's powers were discovered during the Talons of Power ceremony.[citation needed]
The Royal Hatchery[edit | edit source]
The hatchery is shaped like a large pale egg, with warm jets of water along the walls used to heat the room. The floor of the room is filled with nests made of seaweeds, with pathways between each nest. The eggs are separated between different stages, from newly laid close to the door and nearly hatched furthest in the room.[5] There used to be a statue of Orca inside the hatchery.[citation needed] According to Queen Coral every SeaWing queen was hatched in the Royal Hatchery.[6]
Food is not allowed inside The Royal Hatchery. It is because blood in the water will attract sharks, who will eat the eggs. Other SeaWing Hatcheries gets attacked by hungry sharks all the time.[7]
Tsunami's egg was stolen from The Royal Hatchery by Webs, in order to get all of The Dragonets of Destiny to one place.
History[edit | edit source]
2000 years before The Dragonet Prophecy[edit | edit source]
The queen of the SeaWings was Queen Lagoon, and the SeaWings lived in The Deep Palace and The Island Palace. During Queen Lagoon's reign, the SeaWings had two animus dragons: the queen's brother, Albatross, and prince Fathom. She had both the animus's create the SeaWings a new palace, The Summer Palace. Fathom and Albatross used their animus magic to build the palace.
During a party at the Island Palace, Albatross killed several SeaWings and a SkyWing visitor. It is commonly believed that Albatross went mad because his use of his animus magic tore away at his soul. In this massacre, Albatross killed Queen Lagoon, her husband Humpback, their daughter Splash, Fathom’s parents (Reef and Manta), as well as Scallop, Eel, a musician, and Princess Sunset of the SkyWings[8]. The only one able to take the throne was Queen Pearl at five years of age.[9]
Pearl sent away Fathom to the Night Kingdom, where the NightWings, because of the tribe’s fear of his animus powers and to teach the newfound animus, Darkstalker, of the dangers of animus magic. Indigo, Fathom’s childhood best friend (and partial lover), asked Queen Pearl if she could also come to guard Prince Fathom, and Pearl had no choice but to allow her. She also sent two other guards with them, Lionfish and Wharf.[citation needed]
Fathom befriended Clearsight and Darkstalker, to the point where Fathom would often forget for hours at a time the trauma he had faced.[citation needed] Tragically, Fathom had to betray Darkstalker to save the future of all of Pyrrhia.
Fathom hid Darkstalker’s Scroll in the Rainforest, and disappeared with Indigo once Darkstalker was put to sleep under a mountain.[citation needed]
The War of SandWing Succession[edit | edit source]
The SeaWings were allied with Blister during the war. Close to the end of the war, after the destruction of The Summer Palace, the SeaWings fled to The Deep Palace and thus severed their alliance with Blister.
Orca's Statue[edit | edit source]
Queen Coral's first daughter Orca challenged her for the throne right as she came of age. Orca almost won, but Coral accidentally impaled Orca and thus won.[citation needed] Orca's last words to Coral were, "I did this all wrong. You're going to rule forever, aren't you, Mother? You should thank me. No one can stop you now." She had left a statue of herself in The Royal Hatchery, which was secretly enchanted to destroy the eggs of all potential heirs soon before they would hatch. The statue killed all but three of Coral's potential heirs, Tsunami, Anemone and Auklet. Tsunami's egg was stolen from the hatchery by Webs before she could be killed. Anemone survived because Coral was there to protect her and Auklet also survived because her egg was protected by Tsunami. It was when Tsunami was protecting the egg of Auklet, that the statue was revealed to be the killer. Orca had hid her Animus powers her entire life,[10] and the statue's creator was not revealed until Anemone enchanted the statue to reveal the dragon that enchanted it before it was destroyed.[11] The statue did not destroy any male SeaWing eggs, as they never had the possibility of becoming heirs to the throne, which lead Coral to have 32 sons.[12]
Present Day[edit | edit source]
The SeaWings' current queen is Queen Coral. The SeaWings currently only have the Deep Palace, as the Summer Palace was bombed by SkyWings in The Lost Heir. However, the SeaWings might shift their diplomacy above water to the Island Palace.[citation needed]
