RainWings are one of the seven tribes living on Pyrrhia. The RainWings live in the Rainforest Kingdom, where the RainWing Village is located, and live alongside the NightWings. They are currently ruled by Queen Glory and are characterized by their color changing scales and pacifism.[1]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
RainWing scales often shift colors with their emotions and are described as being bright, like birds-of-paradise.[1] Most RainWings have a "default" color scheme that their scales shift to when they feel no particular emotion.[citation needed] Their eyes, too, can change color and tend to do so in tandem with their emotions. Common default colors for the eyes include green, yellow, brown, pink, blue, and gold.[2]
The RainWings' "sun time" is said to recharge their scales, and make them smarter, prettier, happier, and better at camouflaging.[3] If RainWings do not get sun time, their scales can appear more dull,[4] and if they have a severe lack of sleep, their scales cannot change color at all.[5] RainWings blind from hatching cannot manually change the color of their scales, and so they always show their emotions. When relaxed, their scales automatically conform to their surroundings.[6]
They are lean dragons, and almost appear delicate and give off a graceful air.[citation needed]
RainWings are long, slender dragons with curved horns and a curled up prehensile tail.[1] They have ruffs behind their ears and an extra spike on the tip of their snout and on either side of their jaw. Small spikes run down from the back of their head to the tip of their tail. They have long, sloth-like claws and two long, venom-spraying fangs. They have forked tongues.
Abilities[edit | edit source]
RainWings are able to change the color of their scales at will, using this to express emotions[2] and to camouflage themselves.[1]
They are able to spray a corrosive black venom[1] from their two longest fangs,[7] which is capable of melting through most organic material but incapable of corroding inorganic matter. If a RainWing's venom gets into the bloodstream or eyes of a dragon, they will be dead within minutes.[8] When the venom of two blood-related RainWings combines, it is no longer corrosive and is neutralized.[9] Most RainWings never use their venom for aggressive purposes,[10] only using it before mating with a partner to test whether they are related to each other and therefore determine whether mating is appropriate.[11] With Glory being Queen of the RainWings, the amount of RainWings willing to use their venom on other dragons may increase as she is trying to convince the pacifist RainWings that it may sometimes be necessary to defend themselves using venom.[citation needed]
Similar to LeafWings, RainWings gain energy from sunlight, though whether they have the actual ability to photosynthesize like LeafWings is not directly mentioned.[citation needed]
RainWings have been known to flare their ruff if they feel threatened or angered.[12]
Names[edit | edit source]
Due to Rainwings hatching all together, The RainWings have a list of names that they choose from.[13]Some dragonets are named after the flora and fauna of the rainforest like Orchid, Bromeliad, Pineapple, and Kinkajou, Tamarin, Chameleon. Others are named after adjectives and other positive words like Magnificent, Grandeur, and Glory. Dragons with the fancier names tend to want to become queen more often.[13]
