NightWings are one of the seven tribes living on Pyrrhia. They used to live on a volcanic island, but after the volcano erupted at the end of The Dark Secret, they were forced to flee to the Rainforest. NightWings can breathe fire and, because of their appearance, can hide in the night sky. When a NightWing egg hatches below the light of a full moon, the dragonet gets either mind reading or the ability to see the future. Dragonets hatched below two full moons get both powers, and those born below all the full moons have their powers enhanced. Their current queen is Queen Glory. Glory became their queen after the NightWings fled from the volcanic island. Most NightWings dislike her because she is a RainWing. NightWings have the potential to have animus magic, branching from the royal IceWing bloodline, however their last known animus is Stonemover.

NightWings can have anywhere from purple to black scales. They have silver scales scattered under their wings, which helps them hide in the night sky. To camouflage themselves further, NightWings have strands of star scales running along their neck, and tail. They have straight horns and a forked black tongue. Small spikes run down their head to their tail. Their underbelly usually is a light gray or purple depending on their main body coloring.

NightWings born with the power to read minds have a silver teardrop beside their eyes, this might also be a trait of empaths, like Fatespeaker, as she had these scales as well. Their eye color can be silver, black, dark blue, dark green, or purple.

Culture

Legends: Darkstalker

When NightWings are born, they are named by their mother's. This is shown when Foeslayer is arguing with Arctic over what to name Darkstalker.

NightWings used to have grand palaces in Darkstalker's time. NightWings of a greater status usually live higher up to be closer to the moon, as it is stated it "fuels their power." This is undetermined if it is true. Lower class citizens live in the bottom, which was not as desirable.

NightWings during this time were great philosophers, architects, and artists. They had extensive libraries, great halls of knowledge, and thousands of scrolls. The first NightWing librarians were honored. The NightWings were also social, and it was commented multiple times in the books how their society ran on other visiting tribes.

NightWings had the grandest schools in all of Pyrriha, with beautiful courtyards, and gracefully designed pillars.

NightWings also had grand festivals, being Queen Vigilance's 40th year ruling the NightWings, she had a Glass Jubilee, where she hired the best musicians, feasts, and of course a glass sculpture contest. The festivals usually have games, and other forms of amusement for the guests. They are very popular, and almost the whole tribe will join in on the celebration.
