An Image of a SeaWing From a NightWing Guide to The Dragons of Pyrrhia

SeaWings are one of the seven tribes living in Pyrrhia. The home of the SeaWings is the Kingdom of the Sea, where the underwater Deep Palace is located. They also had another palace named the Summer Palace, which was mostly above water, before it was destroyed. SeaWings have the ability to breathe underwater, see in the dark, and create huge waves with their tails. They are also excellent swimmers.[1] Their current queen is Queen Coral, whose current heirs are Tsunami, Anemone and Auklet. The SeaWing royal family carries the trait which allows them the potential for animus magic.

Appearance

SeaWings can have any range of blue, green, gray, or aquamarine scales and features (rarely they may be light pinks[2], and even purples). Their eyes may appear green, blue, gray, or purple.

Tsunami with the royal SeaWing spirals, The Lost Heir: Graphic Novel 2

SeaWings are covered with bioluminescent stripes on their tails, snout, arms, legs, sides, and underbellies.[1] Royal SeaWings have luminescent stripes under their wings that form into spirals around the outer edges and large starbursts that branch out from the lines in the middle.[3] Non-royal SeaWings typically only have smaller starbursts on their wings and lack any spirals. It is believed that each luminescent scale is different.

They are said to be short, and have small compact bodies, with short stubby legs. They have twisted back horns that are also short for a dragon. Their claws are described to be as sharp as fish hooks.

They have a webbing of spines running down their back and the front of their chest. Below their chin, they sport two barbels of varying size.

Abilities

SeaWings have webs between their claws to help them swim faster. They have gills on their necks to breathe underwater,[1] and also possess the ability to breath above water. Their thick tails are used to propel themselves through tough currents and fast rapids.

The bioluminescent stripes on every SeaWing serves as the basis for the language Aquatic. It is used to communicate below water, and to attract possible SeaWing partners.[4]

Culture

Talons of Power

When SeaWings have turned two years old, they are tested if they have animus magic. This ceremony is called Talons of Power, and takes place next to the ruins of the old Island Palace. Both Anemone and Fathom's powers were discovered during the Talons of Power ceremony.[citation needed]

History

2000 years before The Dragonet Prophecy

At this time, the queen of the SeaWings Queen Lagoon. During Queen Lagoon's reign, the SeaWings had two animus dragons: the queen's brother, Albatross, and prince Fathom. During a party at the Island Palace, Albatross killed several SeaWings and a SkyWing visitor. It is commonly believed that Albatross went mad because his use of his animus magic tore away at his soul. In this massacre, Albatross killed Queen Lagoon, her husband Humpback, their daughter Splash, Fathom’s parents (Reef and Manta), as well as Scallop, Eel, a musician, and Princess Sunset of the SkyWings[5]. The only one able to take the throne was Queen Pearl at five years of age.[6]

Prince Fathom of the SeaWings, Moon Rising: Graphic Novel 6

Pearl sent away Fathom to the Night Kingdom, where the NightWings, because of the tribe’s fear of his animus powers and to teach the newfound animus, Darkstalker, of the dangers of animus magic. Indigo, Fathom’s childhood best friend (and partial lover), asked Queen Pearl if she could also come to guard Prince Fathom, and Pearl had no choice but to allow her. She also sent two other guards with them, Lionfish and Wharf.[citation needed]

Fathom befriended Clearsight and Darkstalker, to the point where Fathom would often forget for hours at a time the trauma he had faced.[citation needed] Tragically, Fathom had to betray Darkstalker to save the future of all of Pyrrhia.

Fathom hid Darkstalker’s Scroll in the Rainforest, and disappeared with Indigo once Darkstalker was put to sleep under a mountain.[citation needed]

Present Day

The SeaWings' current queen is Queen Coral. The SeaWings currently only have the Deep Palace, as the Summer Palace was bombed in The Lost Heir. However, the SeaWings might shift their diplomacy above water to the Island Palace.[citation needed]
