Scarlet was the queen of the SkyWings during The War of SandWing Succession. She was the daughter of Firestorm, mother to Ruby, Hawk, Vermilion, and several unnamed SkyWings.[citation needed] She had one older sister at least two younger sisters.[1][2] She was killed by Queen Ruby at the end of Escaping Peril.[3]
Description[edit | edit source]
Scarlet has orange scales and has rubies embedded between the scales over her eyes.[4] She is slightly larger than Clay and slightly smaller than Kestrel.[5]
Scarlet was queen for thirty years and defeated fourteen challengers.[6] Before her death, she had not been challenged for about eight or nine years.[7] She enjoyed dramatic entertainment like arena battles and trials, the latter of which she thought made her seem like a fair and just ruler.[7][8]
Life[edit | edit source]
The first thing Scarlet learned to do as a dragonet was point at things and scream until someone gave them to her.[9] She screamed anytime she didn't get her way.[10] Scarlet would steal treasure from other dragons in the SkyWing Palace and, when confronted, act as if the dragon speaking to her was incomprehensible.[11]
Scarlet chose to marry Canyon, and the wedding was in planning for days.[12] The event took place in the arena with heavy decorations, a feast including roasted elephants and seared leopards, and a pit of gold coins to roll around in.[13] During the wedding, Scarlet challenged her mother, Firestorm, for the throne and won.[14] She also poisoned her older sister, with several other dragons accidentally being poisoned as well.[1] It was officially the deadliest day in the Sky Kingdom since the last war.[15]
Over the following twelve years, Scarlet had sixteen eggs with Canyon; four males and twelve females.[16] She also survived challenges from her two remaining sisters, two first daughters, a one niece.[17] Scarlet then sent Canyon to the arena, where he won two battles before dying to a SkyWing general.[18]
Over her thirty-year reign, Scarlet replaced all the art in the palace with statues of herself.[19]
When Clay and Tsunami escaped their cave under the mountain, Scarlet found them after pursuing a human that had taken her treasure.[20][21] After Tsunami attacked her,[22] she followed the smoke signal made by Sunny, Starflight, and Glory and captured the Dragonets of Destiny.[23][24] She also captured Kestrel and killed Dune.[25]
During Kestrel's trial, Scarlet killed Osprey after Peril revealed she knew of the Champion's Shield.[26] During the battle, she was sprayed on the side of her face venom from Glory, who was in a marble tree next to Scarlet.[27]
