Chapter Description
Secretkeeper is running from the volcano to meet with her egg. She is mad that it had to be tonight, and passes Mastermind and Farsight, with Mastermind giving her a mean stare. Farsight gives sympathy, as Secretkeeper told her tribe she lost her egg, and offers to sit with her. She lashes out at Farsight in anger to escape the situation, and runs off, while swearing to apologize the next day. She meets Preyhunter at the entrance to the rainforest, who is lamenting about if the volcano would erupt that day. When Preyhunter questions Secretkeeper, she says she is going to get prey for the queen, which he notes is a good idea.
When she enters the rainforest, she notes there is two full moons above, just like when she left her egg there, and she notes that the egg will be female. When she runs to where she left her egg, she sees it not in the place where she left it, however nearby there is a silver egg-- which is the same egg as before, under the moonlight. She is confused on why the egg is this color and why the egg rolled over to the moonlight. Then, the egg starts to hatch, and she panics, not knowing what to do. While concerned about the egg possibly being damaged, she promises to love it no matter what. Just then, the egg hatches, and she is happy knowing her egg is already healthier than the rest on the island. She sees teardrops near her eyes, and her reaching towards the moons. She calls her dragonet Moonwatcher.
Preyhunter rushes into the rainforest, calling for Secretkeeper. She tells her newborn dragonet that she has to hide. Secretkeeper tells Moonwatcher most of what she needs to know, although is worried that a RainWing will find her or a NightWing will show up and be mad for keeping a secret. She rushes back towards the volcano, promising to be back soon. Moonwatcher stares intently, and Secretkeeper ponders if she has mind reading powers, but doesn't believe them because it hasn't occured for generations. She then runs back to the volcano. Moonwatcher is sad, and calls for her mother.
