The only known cure to their frostbreath is lava, as seen with Battlewinner. The only known dragons that can withstand frostbreath are firescales, such as Peril. If not treated, frostbreath can do damage to limbs, and lead to them falling off. IceWings cannot use their frostbreath if they have come into contact with something hot around their throat, as in a burning chain, or other hot metal.

An Image of an IceWing from a NightWing Guide to The Dragons of Pyrrhia

IceWings are one of the seven tribes that live on Pyrrhia. They are located in the Ice Kingdom up north. Their current queen is Queen Snowfall.[citation needed] They are characterized by their ability to withstand sub-zero weather,[citation needed] the extra spikes on their neck, spiked whip-thin tails, ability to blend into snow,[citation needed] and extremely sharp claws.[citation needed] The royal IceWing family formerly had the genes for animus magic, but lost it when Prince Arctic, one of the only two animus IceWings, fled the Ice Kingdom and had dragonets with a NightWing.[citation needed]

Appearance

IceWings can have white, silver, purple, light green, or light blue scales, sometimes patterned with darker colors, such as dark blue. Their eyes can be dark blue, icy blue, or grey.

IceWings resemble a diamond form, and take highly to good hygiene. It is stated by Winter that Icicle would jump in ice cold water multiple times a day to be as shiny as she could.[citation needed] They are lean, and are usually being described as narrow and "perfect" looking.[citation needed]

IceWings have long horns that curve down and extra icicle-like spikes on their neck. They have a line of spikes that run down to the start of their tail and extra spikes on the tip of their tail and serrated claws for gripping ice.[citation needed] Their scales emit a cold chill.[citation needed]

Arctic with red blood, instead of blue, Winter Turning: Graphic Novel 7

They have forked dark blue tongues and,[citation needed] unlike other tribes, have deep blue blood.[citation needed] However, in Winter Turning: Graphic Novel, Arctic appears to have red blood.[citation needed] This is possibly a mistake made by Mike Holmes.

Abilities

IceWings can exhale a deadly, freezing substance from their mouth called frostbreath, similarly to firebreath.[citation needed] It is described as a sparkling smoke that appears in icicle-like bursts once it has hit an object.[citation needed] They formerly used to have animus magic, but do not anymore.

The only known cure to their frostbreath is lava, as seen with Battlewinner.[citation needed] The only known dragons that can withstand frostbreath are firescales, such as Peril.[citation needed] If not treated, frostbreath can do damage to limbs, and lead to them falling off.[citation needed] IceWings cannot use their frostbreath if they have come into contact with something hot around their throat, as in a burning chain, or other hot metal.[citation needed]

Their claws can inflict major damage as they are described by Clay to be "four times sharper than average claws".[citation needed]

Names

IceWings are named by the highest rank in their family, and must be approved by the queen.[citation needed] They are usually named after things found in their environment, such as Lynx or Glacier, or cold things, like Winter and Snowfall.

Additionally, many IceWings, especially IceWings who lived in outer IceWing villages, were named Caribou after the famous IceWing animus “Caribou”, who with her powers created the gift of sustenance.[citation needed]
