Treasure Heist[edit | edit source]

At the age of sixteen, Rose and her two brothers stole horses from their father's stable[2] and went to steal treasure from the SandWing Stronghold. Rose was tasked with slipping into the dragon palace and finding the treasure room in the middle of the night.[1] Shortly after she returned from her second trip to the treasure room,[3] Queen Oasis appeared behind them, enraged that they were stealing her treasure. While Stone and Heath struggled to fight Oasis, she hurled a heavy bag of treasure at the SandWing's head.[4] While this did stun her for a moment,[5] she then began to breath fire at Rose[6] and Heath.[7] In the confusion, Rose injured her leg and hid in a sand dune. Her brothers, believing her to be dead, rode off with the treasure and the severed tail barb of the now dead Queen Oasis.[8] Rose managed to hide two more sacks of treasure, one of which containing the Eye of Onyx, in the dead queen's mouth before being discovered by Smolder.[9]

Early Days with Smolder[edit | edit source]

Smolder found Rose hiding in a sand dune just outside the palace and decided to keep her as a pet as a distraction from the disappearance of Palm.[10] Because of how fierce Rose was with a sword, Smolder referred to her as Stabby. Six-Claws brought Smolder a bird cage to keep Rose in, much to her dismay.[11]

Initially, Burn wanted to cut off Rose's head and mount it on a spike,[12] but eventually Smolder and his two brothers, Scald and Singe, convinced her to let Smolder keep Rose.[13]

Smolder and Dune made a harness and leash for Rose so that Smolder could take her out of her cage without fear of her running away or being eaten.[14]

While Smolder was wandering through the history museum with Rose on his shoulder, she start pointing to one of the flowers of a tapestry and then to herself repeatedly in in attempt to communicate that her name is Rose.[15] Smolder misunderstood this as her saying that her name is Flower,[16] and begins to call her that instead of Stabby.[17]
