Description

Life

Treasure Heist

At the age of sixteen, Rose and her two brothers stole horses from their father's stable[2] and went to steal treasure from the SandWing Stronghold. Rose was tasked with slipping into the dragon palace and finding the treasure room in the middle of the night.[1] Shortly after she returned from her second trip to the treasure room,[3] Queen Oasis appeared behind them, enraged that they were stealing her treasure. While Stone and Heath struggled to fight Oasis, she hurled a heavy bag of treasure at the SandWing's head.[4] While this did stun her for a moment,[5] she then began to breath fire at Rose[6] and Heath.[7] In the confusion, Rose injured her leg and hid in a sand dune. Her brothers, believing her to be dead, rode off with the treasure and the severed tail barb of the now dead Queen Oasis.[8]

  1. 1.0 1.1 Dragonslayer, Prologue, paragraph 19. "Stone squinted up at Rose’s silhouette as she inched down the stone wall, finding cracks and dents where she could fit her feet to climb. This whole plan had been Heath’s idea, of course; Heath was obsessed with the dragons of the desert beyond their forest. Rose, the youngest, had run the greatest risk, slipping into the dragon palace and finding the treasure room in the middle of the night."
  2. Dragonslayer, Prologue, paragraph 20. "Stone’s job was transport. As the oldest and biggest of the three siblings, he could carry all four of the sacks himself, at least until they reached the horses that were waiting a few dunes away — the horses he had stolen from their father’s stable two nights ago."
  3. Dragonslayer, Prologue, paragraph 13. "His brother gave him a scornful look and reached into the other bag. Stone heard the soft metallic sound of gold nuggets running through Heath’s fingers. “She wanted to go back for more,” Heath murmured. “She said there was rooms and rooms of it. All this sand dragon treasure — ours, Stone. We’ll be kings.”"
  4. Dragonslayer, Prologue, paragraph 38. "“Stone!” Rose cried, darting forward. She grabbed one of the sacks of treasure and swung it in a full arc around her body, hurling it at the dragon’s head."
  5. Dragonslayer, Prologue, paragraph 39. "The heavy bag collided with the queen’s skull with a loud crack. The desert dragon stumbled back, shook her head, and lunged forward with a roar."
  6. Dragonslayer, Prologue, paragraph 41. "A burst of flames shot from the dragon’s mouth. Her wings flared, flinging sand into Stone’s face. He floundered forward blindly. Not Rose. Not Rose."
  7. Dragonslayer, Prologue, paragraph 49. "Heath flinched away from him. Stone realized that his brother’s clothing was charred, and dark burns rippled along his arm on one side. “She’s gone, Stone.” Heath picked up another one of the bags of treasure, shoved the object in his hand into it, and fled into the darkness."
  8. Dragonslayer, chapter 29, paragraph 65. "“No, that was my other brother,” Rose said. “Kind of an accident, though. Anyway, they rode off into the desert, but I’d hurt my leg, so I hid in a sand dune. That’s where my dragon found me. I knew he wouldn’t eat me. He has kind eyes.” She thought for a moment. “OK, that’s not entirely true. I spent the first couple of years expecting him to change his mind or, like, eat me in his sleep or something!”"
