MudWings are one of the seven tribes living on Pyrrhia. They are usually located in the eastern part of the continent in the Mud Kingdom, which is currently ruled by Queen Moorhen.[1]MudWings are often characterized by their physical strength and broad, flat snouts.

Appearance

MudWing scales range from shades of brown or amber, and less commonly murky-green or rust-red scales. Their underscales are typically lighter than their main scales, being buttery shades of yellow, light brown, or a pale green. Their dorsal scales are normally dark brown, green, or red, and their irises are warm shades of brown, amber, or hazel.

MudWings are large, strongly built dragons with thick, armored scales.[1] horns are gently curved, while their heads are uniquely large and flat. MudWings also have nostrils on the top of their snouts to aid in breathing while submerged underwater, and spines along their back that broaden on their tails. They also have thick plates of scales along their thighs, upper body, shoulders, and tail.

Abilities

MudWings are able to breathe fire if they are warm enough,[1] and hold their breath for up to an hour.[1]

On occasion, a clutch of MudWings contains a blood-red egg, in which case the dragonet inside will have fire-resistant scales.[2] However, they must activate this ability in mud for it to work. They are not totally immune to fire, though, and still can be burned badly. They just heal alarmingly quickly. Blood-red eggs are quite rare, and are often destroyed by their parents.

Diet

MudWings commonly eat animals such as crocodiles, water birds, hippos, water buffalo, cows, elephants, and other swamp-dwelling creatures.[3] MudWings may eat fruit, such as melons.[4] However, MudWings will eat most things they can get their claws on.[5]

It’s possible that MudWings have desserts and prepare other dishes, such as frozen cream with melon, and possibly other fruit,[4] as it is stated in A Guide To The Dragon World that frozen cream with melon is a rare MudWing delicacy.[4] They are also shown to breed livestock, such as cows.[6]
