Sutherland (born July 31, 1978, in Caracas, Venezuela) is an American author best known for writing the Wings of Fire book series.[1] She also works alongside numerous authors on popular book series such as Warriors and Seekers under the collective pseudonym Erin Hunter.[2][3] She has written books under her actual name as well as under pen names, including Tamara Summers, Heather Williams, and Rob Kidd.

Sutherland was born on July 31, 1978 in Caracas, Venezuela, and lived in Asuncion, Paraguay; Miami, Florida; and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, before moving to New Jersey in high school where she started doing backstage work for theater.[1] Her mother, who was from New Zealand, named her after the tui, a bird native to that country. She graduated from Williams College in 1998 and is currently living with her husband, her two children, and her dog in Boston.
