Clay, one of the five Dragonets of Destiny. He was the protagonist of the first book in the Wings of Fire series:The Dragonet Prophecy. Currently, he is a teacher at Jade Mountain Academy.

Clay is a typical MudWing with warm, brown scales that resemble wet mud. His underbelly is a lighter shade of tan, and his eyes are a deep amber color, wide, strong shoulders, round snout, and a bulky frame.Clay walks with a limp on his hind leg, a lasting reminder of the dragon viper snake bite he suffered at the sand wing stronghold. Like all MudWings, Clay can hold his breath for extended periods underwater and is resistant to heat and fire because he hatch in a blood red egg.

Clay is kind, loyal, and supportive. He is often seen as the "big brother" of the Dragonets of Destiny, always putting others safety and happiness before his own. He has a gentle and forgiving nature, rarely holding grudges and preferring to avoid conflict when possible. Despite this, he is incredibly brave and will not hesitate to defend his friends and loved ones, even at great personal risk. Clay is known for his hearty appetite and love for food, which sometimes becomes a source of humor among his friends. He is deeply empathetic and often serves as the emotional anchor for the group, offering comfort and encouragement when others are in distress. While he may doubt his intelligence and capabilitys compared to his more tactical or clever friends, Clay has a strong moral compass and often serves as the voice of reason. His optimism and resilience make him a natural leader, even though he is modest about his own abilities.
