Clay, one of the five Dragonets of Destiny. He was the protagonist of the first book in the Wings of Fire series:The Dragonet Prophecy. Currently, he is a teacher at Jade Mountain Academy.
Clay is a typical MudWing with brown scales, wide, strong shoulders, bulky frame, and amber eyes. Like all MudWings, Clay can hold his breath for extended periods underwater and is resistant to heat and fire because he hatch in a blood red egg.
Clay is characterized by his kind-hearted, protective, and selfless nature. As the de facto "big brother" of the Dragonets of Destiny, he often places the safety and happiness of his friends above his own well-being. Despite being perceived as slow-witted by some, Clay is deeply thoughtful and exhibits quiet strength and leadership. His appetite and love for food—especially cows—are recurring humorous elements in the series.
